Faces of the Sea: Theme of Seafarers Day 2013
The Day of the Seafarer is celebrated worldwide every 25th of June 25. For this year, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) announced that it will go with the theme, “Faces of the Sea.” The theme last year was “It came by sea and I can’t live without it”.
The theme this year aims to recognize the important role of the seafarers to the shipping industry. It will also showcase the sacrifices they make and the challenges they face while onboard.
To ensure the success of their campaign, the IMO is calling all seafarers to take part in this event. Seamen are encouraged to show their support through social media.
The IMO said, "Take a picture of yourself, or ask a colleague to take it, from a ship while working at sea or in port in a situation that surprises, or that inspires those that rarely consider what its like to be at sea. Post to any of the IMO's social media channels, telling us how many days you have spent at sea this year and why you posted this picture."
"But this is just a small glimpse of what we have in store, so stay tuned for more information on how to get involved, our toolkits will be available in a few days," the IMO added.
