Thank God! No Filipinos in Capsized China Cruise Ship

Jun 03, 2015

According to the initial reports received by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), there are no Filipino passengers aboard the cruise ship that sank in Yangtze river.

The 4-tier Eastern Star has 465 people onboard when it overturned at Jianli section of Yangtze on Monday, June 1. The ship was not overloaded when the accident happened, resulting to hundreds still missing.

Eastern Star, with a design similar to Costa Concordia, sank due to bad weather conditions.

Among those 18 people rescued first were the captain and chief engineer of the ship who were detained by the police for questioning of the incident.
