17 Filipino Fishermen Repatriated from Indonesia

Jun 01, 2015

The Department of Foreign Affairs repatriated 17 Filipino fishermen who were arrested in Indonesia for illegal fishing.

They were aboard KM Garuda 05, KM Garuda 06, KM Inday Hubag, KM JVY and KM JV fishing vessels from Jakarta, Indonesia. Failure to present their passports and valid travel documents upon entering Indonesian waters had led to the arrest of these fishermen. Out of the 17, two boat captains have been arrested back in 2012 and served sentences.

“The Philippine Government is committed to provide repatriation assistance to Filipinos who may find themselves in distress overseas, including our fisher folks who stray into foreign waters,” stated by Ambassador Ricardo M. Endaya of the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (OUMWA).
