Anti-Piracy Drills Held by Philippines and Japan
The Philippines and Japan’s coast guard teams held an anti-piracy drill last Wednesday, May 6, 2015, to show the two nations maritime cooperation.
The anti-piracy drill was the first after the Philippines and Japan signed a partnership pack in 2012.
Aiming to find ways to improve safety and battle piracy and transnational crime, the exercise was witnessed by 17 nations’ coast guard chiefs.
Coast guard captain Koichi Kawagoe said that Japan is ready to exert efforts on incidents relating to piracy, further explaining that the drill was for mutual interest.
China’s representative was also present to observe the drill even though there were past conflicts with Japan and Philippines.
