2 Seafarers Axe-fight Onboard Bulk Carriers

Apr 13, 2015

MV Qing May, a Liberia-flagged bulk carrier, sent a distress call to the Philippine Coast Guard when an axe fight between its crew members occurred.

The 200,000 DWT Chinese vessel was near Jolo island in the Philippines, when the local coast guard come onboard for assistance.  It was then when two Chinese nationals, the35-year old chief cook and 28-year old chief engineer, were declared dead. Another seafarer, the 49-year old electrical engineer, is still in serious condition after sustaining wounds.

The vessel was headed to China from Australia, when the argument between the crew members happened. The reason behind is unclear as no seafarers onboard can speak English.

MV Qing May remained docked in Zamboanga port as the investigation continues.
